What I did on my Spring vacation

Greetings from sunny Houston, Texas!

Um.. what sun?
That's what I'd be saying if I had been writing this blog post about 3 weeks ago. See, I drove down there with the family to visit our good friends Dan & Jenny and stay with them for a week. We had a blast! We went to see so many cool things including a WWII Destroyer Escort & Submarine, the Gulf of Mexico, Johnson Space Center (Complete with Saturn 5 rocket), The Houston Zoo & Aquarium.

Signal Operator Ensign Ethan reporting that we've run aground.

Will the owner of a large white rocket, license number.. um.. U-S-A.. please report to the front desk. You're double parked.
Check out the cougar!... No, not THAT kind. The real kind.
Dan and I also managed to sneak in a bit of gaming when I broke out Summoner Wars while the wives were out one evening. I still love this game, despite the fact that Dan won twice in a row!

Skunked by the Undead!

Also, in an awesome bit of coincidental timing (seriously, we did not plan for it) there also happened to be a great little gaming convention in Houston that week called Mag-Con. What this con lacks in size (our own Rock-Con is a fair bit larger) it makes up for in robustness and friendliness. Once again I got to see Dan's friends from Little Wars (their local game store) and got in several games with Brett, Craig, & Jon, as well as chatting with Buffy for a bit. Here are some pictures of the games I played while I was down there.

Civilization from FFG. Great game! So much going on though.
Formula D from Asmodee. I really love this game with a big group. Hilarity ensues!
Finally got in some Warmachine! My opponents were exceedingly patient with me. Thank you!
Dan's All Things Zombie game. Always a big hit and such awesome terrain!
So yeah, I know it's been a while from the last post and sadly I haven't accomplished anything since last time. At least the Riflemen that I had been working on made their first in-game debut at Mag-Con. But now my difficulty is that Gen Con is looming on the no too far off horizon and it's full-bore eBay time as I try to get us to Indianapolis all expenses paid for the third year in a row.

We're off to a good start with Dan's old OOP Warhammer Goblins making an awesome showing last week and I have some more painted stuff up this week. You can keep an eye on my stuff from here if you'd like. In the next several weeks I'll be posting High Elves & Wood Elves for Warhammer Fantasy, lots of Epic & Warmaster stuff, as well as two separate painted Warmachine armies.

I desperately want to try to keep painting as we go forward this summer though. I was making such good progress and I hate to see things stall out. I will try my best as my goals for the year are still nagging at me much like my Mom nagged to get me to do my homework when I was a kid.

Can I juggle eBay and hobby time? Stay tuned!
Until next time,
-Jack

Table time is paint time and vice versa. Playing games can be used to encourage you to paint your forces and painting your forces can encourage you to find time to play. Getting to use your riflemen is just another step closer to getting them done, if you want it to be.
